Review Topic: K1 Visa

My interview appointment was on November 16th 2015 at 10am.

I had a friend come with me to hold the things I wasn't allowed to bring into the consulate as there is nowhere you can lock those things in.

I was very nervous about the interview since I had an F-1 student visa denied in 2011. Turns out I had no reason to be nervous.

We got there at 9am and there was no line outside to wait in so I went straight up to the window I was called to. The officer ckecked my appointment letter and passport, gave me a ticket with a number on it and told me to go trough security. Since I had already given my friend everything I wasn't supposed to bring it was quick and easy. I only had my documents in a bag. I was told to take my watch off and put in a bag. I got to put it back on in the next building where the interviews take place.

The lady at the front desk told me where to go and I had to wait to be called to window 21.

The officer at window 21 went over my general information with me and told me to wait again for the interview. She spoke to me in German.

I got called up by the officer around 10 minutes after my scheduled appointment time. He made me take the oath that all my information was true and he took my fingerprints. Then he started with the questions:

- Where did you and your fiancé meet? (I was an au pair, he a lifeguard at the pool i took the kids to)

- How did he propose to you? (Our favorite spot where we also had our first date)

- Has he come to visit you in Germany? ( 4 times)

- He showed me one of the pictures we sent in for proof and asked me who my fiancé is in the picture

- When do you plan to get married?

- You had a denied F1 student visa. How come? (Hostfamily as sponsor)
This was my most dreaded question but he laughed immediately and told me that was a bad idea of me to have my hostfamily as a sponsor.

He ended the interview with: Well, this time you're lucky. Your visa is approved and will be sent to you in the next couple of days.

The whole interview was more like small talk and telling a stranger the story of your relationship. Everyone was really friendly.

And I'm glad this whole waiting and not knowing process is over after 285 days of waiting since we sent in the petition and I can finally marry the love of my life.
