We Had our interview in October of this year and nothing here at Visa Journey could have prepared us for this experience. The process in Guatemala is very degrading. I want to share my experience because not all experience or interviewers are nice or even friendly. Perhaps is the fact that my wife entered without inspection that changes the entire interview but it should not violate the basic human and privacy rights followed by this country
In my opinion it violates many basic human and privacy acts established in the USA. The interview is not private. The Banking Window style and the proximity of the crowd awaiting their turn with the people actively been interviewed is just a Horror Show.
You cannot hear the names been called clearly, so you have to acquire super powers to make sure that you don't miss your name been called. The background noise of the room combined with a substandard loud speaker system is a recipe for disaster.
In the other hand, the interviewer speaker system works perfectly. You can hear their questions and the interviewees answers, you can hear the most intimate details of others. In other words, you witness the pain and suffering of many brothers and sisters going through this process.
Our Interviewer was not the friendly type, the other 4 interviewers were very friendly, professional and customer centered. So there is a possibility to get an unfriendly interviewer that he/she style of questioning are accusatory instead of exploratory and fact finding. Just be prepared because you might get this type of interviewer.
Sadly, the interview with this individual made me feel like I don't belong in this country. Nevertheless my poor wife who entered more than a decade ago without inspection.
We approached the window as a family and I was immediately sent back to my chair along with my son. No good customer service whatsoever. He drilled my wife then he called me to the frying pan. He did not discriminate against me either, he drilled me like if I entered without inspection. Regardless, that I am a US citizen born in Puerto Rico, served 10 years in the military, one tour in combat and have 25 years combined working experience in the US federal system.
Our Case was approved as we had an impeccable case, waiver approval in hand, no criminal records, no use of fraud SSN to obtain work, solid income in the AOS, and most important we rehearsed and prepared for a situation like this just in case.
