Our interview was set for Oct 26th at 10:00 (a few weeks later than it would have normally been, but we requested this and they were very accommodating and prompt). We both decided to attend in the hopes that it may help our case.
When we submitted our K-3, we got a reply correcting some small omissions (notably the Police report was missing the exception 51 notification). Before the interview we fixed those errors and came in with all the paperwork requested.
We ended up arriving at around 9:30, but they let us in anyways, We were taken through window #1, given the "green envelope", went to fingerprinting, security (a USB thumbdrive on a keychain was kept at security for us), and sat down in the crowded room full of all types of applicants. At 10, we were called in to a small room, they collected all the additional paperwork, gave us back 80% of the additional papers they didn't need, and told us to wait.
At around 10:30 we saw the previous applicant for a K1 (or a similar green envelope visa) come out in near tears, so that added some more nervousness to an already nervous situation. Then we were called up.
The lady asked if we would prefer to do the interview in English or Spanish. We chose English. She went through some basic questions such as:
1. When and how did you meet?
2. Are you planning a quick immediate wedding or a bigger event?
3. Have you met or spoken with each others' family?
4. When did you get engaged?
5. What do each of you do for work?
It was all conducted in a very friendly manner and she really put us at ease. While we were talking she was typing away (not even sure if she was typing what we were saying or just filling out her necessary forms). After about five minutes she informed us "congratulations", that the passport should be handed over to DHL in 3-5 business days (it ended up being 4 days).
So for anyone who is at all worried, don't be. They really do try to make the process very friendly. The hardest and worst part really was collecting all the necessary documents....
Good luck to all future applicants!!!
