Review Topic: Adjustment of Status

The interview could not have been better. I was very prepared with duplicate copies of all forms, documents and anything else that could prove useful. The officer asked for documentation showing joint ownership such as bank accounts, tax returns, home ownership, etc. At that time my wife did not even have a social security number. I explained to the AO that without a SSN you don't exist in America. The only thing I was able to put her name on was an insurance policy, which I have forgotten to bring. In the end what made it work for us were the pictures of a recent trip to the east coast to meet my daughter and new granddaughter. The officer was able to determine from this that our intent was to be a married couple.

The entire interview took less than 20 minutes. I was so shocked at how quickly she was approved that I was sure something was wrong. My wife had just received EAD and AP three weeks earlier. The AO confiscated her EAD card.
