I first applied for my fiance's visa in June (you can view my timeline) and it was processed through the California Service Center. The US consulate in Kabul sent us an e-mail on October 1st stating that his interview was on October 4th! Needless to say we weren't given much time but luckily I am OCD and had everything prepared other than the medical exam.
That same day I called the American clinic (it's the only clinic where you can get your medical done) and they told me they were booked until the end of October  Luckily, they did not make it required to have the medical before the interview. Maybe they are trying to schedule as many interviews as possible by the end of the year. I was told you couldn't book an appointment for a medical examination until you had the interview date otherwise I would have booked sooner.
The morning of the interview my fiance arrived at 7am (30 mins before his scheduled interview) through the south entrance of the US consulate. In all, there were about 60 SIV applicants and 2-3 fiance/spousal visa applicants waiting to be interviewed.
His name did not get called until about 11:30am. Meanwhile, every horrible scenario was going through my head as to why he still hadn't called me back yet!
The interview itself only lasted about 10 minutes. The interviewer, a woman, asked him questions mostly about our relationship and plans in the USA including:
- How did you meet?
- How come you don't have an engagement video?
- What was the best thing he liked about me?
- Where do you plan on living? (California)
- What do you plan on doing in the US?
At the end of the interview she asked him a trick question "So, when are you going to New York with your wife?" and he laughed and said "First she's not my wife yet and second, we are going to California like I said earlier.."
Then he was given a yellow card which stated his case was incomplete because of the lack of medical report. He then asked her when he would hear back from them, "At least 1-2 months later?" She responded that it would not take that long after they receive the results of his medical, perhaps a week or two after.
I sincerely hope it doesn't take too long as I know there are other fiance visa applicants who have been waiting for their visa for more than 2 months after their interview.
