Our appointment was at 9.30am and we arrived around 9am to get through security and locate the room. Our lawyer accompanied us to the interview, however this is not necessary but allowed. We were called around 9.40am into a room together and we had officer Rogers and another officer who was training in the room with us. We took the oath and were informed of the recording. Officer Rogers was a really down to earth lady and chatted with us about different things throughout the interview other than her questions - we both felt quite relaxed with her given the stressful circumstances.
The interview lasted about 15 minutes and she went through the I-130 questions like name, address, DOB, parents names etc. and all the questions in the I-485 Yes/Nos. She also asked my husband some simple demographics, where he worked, children, previous marriages etc. The following were the questions she asked us as a couple:
- How did you meet?
- Why did you decide to get married?
She also looked through each page of our original filing packet and asked some questions about items in there such as what our loan together was for (a car) and about some photographs. She asked if we had anything since the filing to add (we had signed a new a new lease, a joint bank account, had more photographs, and wedding invitations recently received etc.) I had a super organized, laid out folder of all of our evidence, pictures, and documents and we didn't really use it much. She looked at the lease and the photographs - only as a courtesy we think (!) and told us she was recommending us for approval. She gave us a paper with her name on it and an approval box checked.
She told us that they did not stamp passports for travel anymore due to trying to increase security measures but the green card will be with me within a month. An hour or so after our interview USCIS sent me a notification that card production was underway.
We are very relieved and thought the process was quite smooth. We were very prepared and had talked a lot about the interview as a couple and spent time organizing our files and reviewing them together, although if we had not done this it may not have been as seamless. Preparation is key. Good luck to everyone still pursuing applications - the process is long and stressful, but it is sweet when its over!
