My appointment time was 9:15am and the confirmation letter said that I should arrive at the entrance gate 15 minutes prior to my interview time. I got there around 8:45am, and the guards let me in as soon as I got there. I got through the security and was given a slip with a number when I entered the waiting/interview room. I was No.44. They also gave me a small slip that I should write my name, address, and phone number in and told me to submit it with other documents. I knew from other people’s posts that it would be a 3-step process. First you submit your paperwork and they will check to see if you have everything required. Secondly, they will take your fingerprints, and finally you have the actual interview with a Consular officer. For some reason I only had two steps. I waited for more than 2 hours before my number was called for the first step. I got very sleepy and tired just sitting and waiting in the room :-P I should have brought something to read or kill time with.

For the 1st step you need to put the following in a clear plastic folder they give you:
1. 1 color photo (2 inch x 2 inch, put it in a small plastic bag they give you)
2. Current passport (must be valid for six months beyond the intended date of entry into the US)
3. DS-160 confirmation page
4. Family Register with its English translation, any other civil documents if applicable
5. I-134 Affidavit of Support and/or evidence of other financial support
6. Police certificates (Each country in which you have resided for more than six months or longer after the age of 16)
7. Court and prison records, military record, if applicable
8. Medical examination report

When I handed my documents to the staff, he quickly looked through them and returned those they didn’t need. I got some tax documents of my fiancé back as well as the CD that contains my X-ray information. The VJ guide recommends that you bring an updated letter of intent, but they didn’t ask for it. The staff seemed satisfied by what I submitted, and I was quickly told to wait for the next step. It took some people a very long time at the 1st step. I assume that they kind of hurried and made an interview appointment before they were ready with their documents.

I was called back for the second and last step about 15 minutes later. The Consular officer was nice and friendly. I was first asked to raise my right hand and pledge that I would basically tell the truth, and he took my fingerprints. He then asked to confirm that I was engaged with my fiancé. Here are the questions I got.

-Has he (my fiancé and petitioner) been engaged before?
-Are you aware that he has filed a petition before?
-How did you two meet?
-What’s the name of the website? (because I answered that we met online)
-When was the first time you met him?
-How many times have you met him so far?
-Did you meet his family?
-Did he meet your family?
-How did he propose?
-What was the most recent gift that he gave you? (The officer asked this question in response to my answer to the prior question)
-Did you give him a gift as well? What is it? Why did you choose that gift?

That was it. He said that "everything seems to be in order” twice at the end and told me that my visa would arrive in the mail in a week.

It was pretty easy. I thought they would ask more about my fiancé’s job or what I do here, or ask for more proof of our relationship. I guess they are satisfied with what we already had submitted :-)

The overall interview time was probably around 5 minutes. It took 3 hours for a 5-minute interview.
