Review Topic: IR-1/CR-1 Visa

At the American Embassy in Paris, every individual we encountered who was either an employee or a representative of the United States government performed their duties well and in a cheerful manner. They were all skilled professionals who were pleasant to work with. Every official, from the highest ranking staffer to the newest security officer was very kind and understanding, and the patience that they showed in dealing the with public was saintly.

The aforementioned public, however, was cretinous. They were rude, angry, and loud. They cut in front of my wife and I in line. They argued against every point the consular officers brought forth. They were supremely uncooperative, ridiculously unprepared, and shamefully self-centered. I was embarrassed to observe their conduct, but they created their own problems through their petulant attitudes and lack of understanding.

In summation, I wish to state that the staff at Paris was competent and pleasant. If you have done your work well, and have a legitimate qualification, you will succeed in obtaining your visa. Beware, however, the fellow visa-seekers who will be around you at the Embassy in Paris. They will push ahead of you, they will seek an advantage over you, and they have no concern about anything other than their own issues.

On the day my wife and I were in attendance, we saw much rudeness from those seeking visas. We heard them give many lies to the consular officers (all clients meet in a single room that is surrounded by windows on three sides, and all communication therein is done through a system of microphones and speakers that are easily overheard by all persons present), and observed that many individuals were denied visas on that day.

Prepare well, be pleasant, and tell the absolute truth when you go to the consulate in Paris. The staff wants you to succeed, and they will advise you well and try to assist you if you are at all eligible. But if you lie, or if you are rude, you will fail.

My wife and I were swiftly given our visa, and the officials were wonderful. Politeness and proper preparation are the keys to success, here.
