I had my interview in JHB last week. I got there pretty early but waited in the car until just before 1pm. BAD MOVE. By the time I got to the door there was a long queue so it took over 30 mins to actually get inside.
We were assigned numbers upon entry so unfortunately I was one of the last ones to be called up. They start with South African employees who take your documents from you. My only question at this stage was - How long have you been married. She also asked for relationship evidence and I had 3 big files so I chose some wedding and family pics and she said that was enough.
The next interview was done by a very nice US Consular Officer lady. She asked the following questions:
- How did we meet?
- When did we meet?
- What jobs we both do.
- Where my spouse lives in the US.
- Who came to the wedding?
All in all the interview went quickly. I offered to show more evidence but the lady told me it was not necessary - she could see I was prepared for a grilling but luckily didn't give me a hard time. I was very happy when she told me I was good to go.
My advice to people would be to go and stand at the door early (like before 12:30) so that you get interviewed first. And also take a lot of evidence with you, even if it not requested, it will put your mind at ease.
