Nicolas had his first interview for February 2007. He arrived and was herded in with the others. The wait wasn't long and everything seemed find except that his chronopost envelope was too small which made him have to leave the embassy and find the nearest post office (about 20 minutes on foot). He still thought all was well upon his return and he was told to expect his visa by mail in about 2 weeks. Two days later a call came from the embassy that there was a problem and he was to go back. When he did, he received a very curt and nasty interview in which he was told that he was trying to cheat with his entries to US by doing a trip to Canada. He was told on the spot to pay $565 for a 601 and 212 waiver. What a nightmare. We contacted the two Iowa senators who looked into things for us and said they found nothing wrong. They wrote to Paris and to Rome on our behalf but still no change. We complied with the requirements and mailed this 80 page waiver off to Rome in April. About 3-4 weeks later we received a message that it was all a mistake--he didn't need the waiver. Rome determined it was all a mistake and his visa was to be approved. He was told to come for another interview in May--all went well. He left his passport and received everything by mail in 2 days! His flight is June 4th...he is coming after so many months!
