I traveled with a friend to the embassy and arrived about an hour early. There was already a long queue lining up outside of the embassy. Excitement and nervousness were building up. They were there for an earlier session of interview or document submission than I am, I'm not sure. But I cannot get in line yet since the line for 'my session' (9am) was not open yet, so the guards said. So we waited.
At around 8:30 am, the guards asked those that had a 9am appointment of come in front of the guards house to show our ID and appointment letter to a woman through a little window, who stamped a B on my appointment letter and gave me a visitor pass. My friend remain outside. Then we lined up to get into the security house for checking. There's only a few of us, less than 10 people in my line. In the security house they kept my phone and charger. Then I'm allowed in (finally) and went into the lobby, where a woman gave out numbers for us after we show her our appointment letter. There's only a few others who took the B number. I'm directed to a room to sit and waited for my number to be called.
After about half an hour later, my number was called to a closed booth to submit the documents. He was a local man, looking serious. Made me more nervous, but I did as instructed. Gave him all he requested, which were visa payment receipt, transaction confirmation for visa delivery, birth certificate, police certificate, 2 US sized passport photo, affidavit of support with the food stamp page, income tax return, medical report (gave me back the xray)..I think that's about it. He also took photocopy of some of the items above...I forgotten which, because I made photocopy of every single document. One can never be too careful :P I felt weird when he didn't request for my proof of relationship, which he noticed so he told me I would be showing them to my interviewer. I left, and felt I won half the battle already! Silly I know! Can't be helped though.
Had a meal with my friend and came back again at 12:45pm. Got in line, got my visitor pass and gain access, sat waiting for my number to be called (the same number that I got from the morning). I was a nervous wreck by then, especially I'm alone (friend wait me outside). All I can think is hurry up already, omg if they reject me etcetc..even though I knew my chances are pretty high. Not to mention this is a same-sex marriage, so there *might* have a slight chance of bias-ness for this type of relationship. It's purely just my paranoid speaking though!
I was called to had my fingerprints scanned then continued to wait again. The wait was really long and torturous. A few others seems to be having similar kind of visa as I did. There were two couples who went into their interview booth together. And there is a guy (in booth 6) who I'm sure interviewing for the same visa as I am because I heard he was made to swear whatever he said in the interview is true. Closed booth aren't very voice proof, just for your information. He took a long time to explain his relationship to his petitioner I think, something about mother sister and everything...it made me even more nervous, like, would I be interrogated as detailed? Ohmigosh! O_O He was very long in there, another lady who had her interview later than him, was done earlier than him! I sat there wishing I wouldn't be called to booth 6.
....guess what, I got called to booth 6. *heartbeat x1000* Managed to calmed myself before entering the booth. The interviewer is a white guy...and very friendly! First made me swear an oath, then asked me to sign on a paper stating I will be marrying my petitioner within 90days upon entering US. Scanned my fingers and then the interview starts! Questions he asked were pretty simple:
- how did you met?
- what games do you play?
- have you two met?
- when did you met?
- what is she working as?
- are you and her single?
- pictures of two of you together
- what games are you playing currently? Are you in any guild? (lol maybe he's a gamer?)
That's all I could think of right now, I might have missed some, but they are all easy questions. He also quickly look through all of our pictures and then type on his computer. The next thing I know, he said "Okay I'm approving your visa, good luck in the US!" I'm super happy and thanked him. He gave me an article about domestic violence and told me that I'll be called again to be explained about my passport pickup. The whole interview took like maybe 10 minutes. It was a breeze! All I can say is as long as you have all required documents given to them, plus solid proof of relationship, you only need to be yourself in the interview and done!
Again, documents are very important so remember to follow every instructions in preparation of your documents perfectly.
People in the embassy are generally friendly. Also thanks to this website with all its helpful guides and tips. It helped A LOT! Other previous reviewers' reviews also helped boost my confidence. So in return for that, I decided to wrote my own experience down with as much detail that I can recall, to help future people who are going for their visa interview to be less nervous! :D
