Review Topic: K1 Visa

My interview was scheduled on Thursday, February 5 at 1330. I went there with my fiancé in the morning 0800, and I entered alone for document checking at 0850. It is B number. The officer examined my paperwork and request his previous marriages, which I didn’t bring along with me. I had the papers but I left it at home (BIG mistake)

In the afternoon, 1300 we went into the embassy together, and my number was called (it was the same number assigned in the morning). Enter room 7, this time another gentleman officer was running through the documents and asking some questions.
• How did we meet?
• What does he do for work?
• Have you been to US, when and how long you stay?
• Have you marry before?
• When did your fiancé divorce?
• Any children?
• Why are you not getting marry here?
• Proof of relationship. I bring a couple of photos taken in the past 3 years. And show to him

He asked me to fill up a name and sign the paper of Fiancé Letter of Intent. Example, “I, , do hereby state that I am legally able and willing to marry , and intend to do so within 90 days of my arrival into the US using the K-1 visa. “

The officer was friendly and nice.

However, I didn’t get the visa approved during my interview date on Feb 5, 2015 because they need the Original divorce certificates from the petitioners previous marriages. The officer gave me a letter - "The Foreign Service of the United States Of America Refusal Worksheet" under Section 221(g) requesting the Original divorce certificates from the petitioners previous marriages. He told me that I need to contact KL Consular via email to arrange 2nd interview to have the formal verification of the requesting document. I am so stress, I make a mistake not bring the document with me. Anyway, what is done is done. We went back.

When we reached home, immediately we email KL Consular and informed them that the requesting documents was ready and have them to advise the next appointment. We received an email from them on Feb 6, 2015 saying that the next appointment is Monday, February 9 at 1400 and I can go with requested documents. The email is my appointment letter :-).

On Feb 9, 2015 I went the alone pretty early, it is before 1300. The queue was long, and I entered the embassy at 1345. It is B number again. My number was called and I entered ROOM 10, and submit the requesting document - petitioners previous marriages and wait for next call. After 20 minutes, my number was called and I entered ROOM 8 this time. The same officer that checked my document on Feb 5, 2015. He verified my documents again and after a while, he told me that It looks good and your visa is approved. He said me to be seated and wait for the next call to discuss how am I going to collect my passport. Well, well, finally it was approved.

So, when my number called again, I entered ROOM 10. The officer that collected my documents informed me that my visa is approved and my passport will be ready on Feb 12, 2015 for collection. I choose to pick up the passport on my own. I thanks him and ask if I going to get the sealed packet, he told me that it will come together with my passport during the collection on Feb 12, 2015. It is 10 minutes to 1500.

I am glad that we got the visa approved, and I advise that brings all documents with you during the interview, so that you don’t miss anything.

The officers at embassy was friendly, and the security guards also very friendly and helpful.

This website and forum discussion is really helpful, informative and many good people and advise here.

Thank you to you all.
