Review Topic: K1 Visa

I did not attend the interview with my fiancé. There are already detailed reviews of the process at the USA interest section so I am just highlighting some points that I think are important and can help people with future interviews.
• There are two lines in the park. Make sure you are in the right one.
• The waiting room is COLD – bring a jacket/sweater
• It will be a long day – take some food to snack
• Make sure they take ALL your evidence. Separate them into small packages if needed. Even if at the window they say they have enough INSIST and submit everything.
• Prepare for the interview; review the type of questions others have posted here. Some counsels are nice but others are intimidating. Prepare for the worst and hope the best.
• If the petitioner is a Cuban born US citizen, the interview will be more detailed.
• If you are put in AP, don’t panic. Simply follow the instructions on the form. A lot of people are put in AP and are successful in getting the Visa.
• The process after the interview could be long and stressful. Stay on top of things, ask questions, and communicate with the embassy if necessary.

The following is time table of my case (remember every case is different)
12/04 -After the interview, we were put in AP. They asked my fiancée for additional telephone records. She had the information with her but when she tried to submitted all the information through the “window” some of the paper did not fit and the employee told her “don’t worry you have plenty of evidence”.
12/09 – She submitted the additional information (phone records) and was told to return on 12/17
12/17 – She was told that the counsel wanted to see the list of invitees to the wedding.
12/18 – She submitted the list with invitees and additional information regarding the wedding planning. She was told to come back on 1/8.
1/6- CEAC Status changed to “READY” (interview)
1/8 - She was told that her visa was not quite ready to come back on 1/15.
1/12 – CEAC Status changed to “READY” (open)
1//14 – CEAC Status changed to “ISSUED”
1/15 –My fiancée went to pick up the visa and was told by the Cuban employee that “the visa was ready but she needed to go to lunch and she had no time to pick it up upstairs” to just come the next day.
1/15 – My fiancée picked up her VISA!!!!!!!!!
1/17 – My fiancée arrived.
