Hi everyone,
We had our interview yesterday and it went really well. Everyone was very friendly but it took over 4 hours so be prepared to wait. A few things seem to have changed since others went in for their interview:
- First go to the front of the line and tell them you're there for an Immigrant Visa, they'll have you go straight in through security
- In Security you'll need to leave your cell phones and any other electronics. Also any liquids will need to be poured out.
- Then you'll head to the back for the Immigrant / Non Immigrant Visa waiting room. There are some benches where you sit and about 15 windows. Numbers 1-7 are for non-immigrant visas and 8-15 are for the immigrant visas.
- Give your interview paper to the lady at the door and she'll then hand that in to get you in line. There's another metal detector and bag check here.
- We were then called up rather quickly to turn in the photos and get a green form to go pay. Previously you paid in the same room but now you have to go back outside and around into the embassy to pay.
- Go straight to the window to pay, don't get a ticket as you're only paying. Then take your receipt back to the window that called you up.
- After this we waited about 1.5 hours for the next person to call us up. I went up with my fiance but they asked me to sit down. Here she turned in the documents that were requested - police reports, medical exams, birth certificate, etc. They asked a few questions about how we met, where we met, how long we had been living together and what plans we had for the wedding as well as the Affidavit of Support. They also asked if we had brought any additional evidence. She handed over the packet we had put together and then sat back down again.
- We then waited for about another 1.5 hours for the next interview. This time I didn't bother to go up since they had told me to sit down the first time but the interviewer asked me to come up, he asked if we preferred to speak in Spanish or English and we opted for English since we are both fluent. They again asked us about our relationship - how we met, where we met, where we were planning on living, what she was planning on doing in the US. It was more of a conversation and the Consular officer was very friendly. At the end of the conversation he gave us a sheet that said we were approved and explained that the Passport would be DHLed to us and to make sure that we had filled out the DHL information.
- Overall everyone was very friendly and it was less intense than I had imagined. Almost everyone who was there getting interviewed seemed to be quite happy about the results.
