Wow!! The process finally seems to be reaching an end... We are so happy to be past this!
First: Though the wait was long, this website and community of people made it bearable. The information found on VisaJourney is spot on. The wikis and spreadsheets are so thorough that I hardly felt I needed to call USCIS or NVC. I can't thank Saylin and her contributors enough.
Brief Consulate Interview Review: My wife is actually the beneficiary so this review is second hand. Her interview was originally scheduled for January 13th, but with a brief email we were able to get it changed to January 6th. FYI, they seem to answer emails much better than the phone in Prague.
Once arriving at the US Consulate, she had to go through security. They took every electronic including her cell phone and headphones. She mentioned that all security guards were polite.
Once arriving at the window, she was asked for her passport and medical packet. They also reviewed her original birth certificate which they requested in the original interview letter. She then had to wait for 20 minutes. After this, another lady called her to the same window. This woman asked her a short series of questions (mostly because she also has family in the same city where I live in Texas, nothing really official). This small talk went on for about 5 minutes during which the officer made a few notes. My wife had taken a few letters which we had mailed each other for proof of relationship which the officer said was a great thing.
At the conclusion of this, the officer told her that they would probably contact her by the end of the week for her to pick up her papers. So overall the experience was painless. Only about 30-35 minutes in total which my wife said was all very pleasant. We give them a big thumbs up. Now we are hoping they call her tomorrow because our status says that the visa has been issued and printed!!
Can't wait for her arrival at the end of this month!!!!!
