The interview was great! Firstly and most importantly: we were approved! javascript:emoticon(' ')
On to the review:
We arrived 10 minutes early for our 2:00pm appointment and went to the door. The guard gave us some crap and instead of just telling us to wait a few minutes asked what time our appointment was at and then what time is it currently. Needless to say, we had to wait literally 2 minutes until he came back out and told the other couple there and another guy to line up and have our passports/IDs out along with our powered-down electronic devices. We made it through successfully (although after scanning my husband's bag like 200 times - he's a doctor and kept forgetting all the tiny electronic equipment he had in his bag) and then we entered the building. It's a great building and while it is normally quite busy, there were only 4 other people there.
The interview is just as the others have described: my husband got called up to the window alone and was asked to pass through the envelope from the medical examine. The woman reviewed everything and asked some questions in Spanish. These were the following questions:
How did we meet?
When did we meet?
When did we start dating?
What does your husband do in Chile?
When did your husband arrive in Chile?
What date did we get married?
There were also a few questions regarding my husband's little heart problem that he mentioned to the doctor and was asked if there was any complications or symptoms, etc. My husband passed her an updated police certificate as this was suggested. Then she asked my husband to sit down. We waited for about another hour while the consular officer reviewed our paperwork and the paperwork of others. We were finally called up to the window to speak with a very nice gringo. We spoke in English for this portion of the interview. He immediately asked when we were going to travel and we told him in a few months. He said, "OK, great because your visa will take about 5 days so I'm not sure if it will be ready by the new year." (We were already approved!) He then continued to ask a couple of casual questions: how did we meet, where do we want to live in the US, what is the process my husband needs to go through to revalidate his degree to practice medicine, etc. Then he consular officer gave some advice about my husband studying to become a Physician's Assistant as opposed to an MD and we just generally chatted for a while. He said we were approved and gave us the information on picking up the passport and papers at the local DHL office.
One note: if you submitted original docs during the NVC stage (I guess this is now the old system), you MUST ASK FOR THEM BACK! We almost left the embassy without our original marriage license but we remembered at the last minute.
Then we went and had pizza and beer to celebrate! Wahoo!
My husband saw Dr. Passalacqua in Santiago for his medical examine and he was very thorough and very nice.
