GARDEN CITY NY (Long Island)
This is our experience:
We arrived 1:45 PM for a 2 PM interview. You get scanned thru security and directed to a window like DMV. The lady took Tiff's appointment letter. Then you wait, we waited about a half hr, then they called about 10 people's names, and asked if anyone needed a translator. Then we all went upstairs. Then we waited another half hr or so. Finally an interview officer called us, and we introduced eachother. She was not unpleasant, but not the most friendly. Quite professional.
During the interview, she asked us for ID. Then she actually asked me more questions than she did Tiff. It started with my pedigree, then how we met. Where we met, what I do, have I ever been married, I am 15 yrs Tiff's senior, so there was a question directed at Tiff about how old I was when we met (To which Tiff answered wrong).
Tiff's questions were quite simple, when did you come to the USA, did you ever leave, why the long overstay (To which I answered because she met me, and didn't want to leave, and I procrastinated about marriage, I blamed myself). She asked Tiff where and if she worked, is she working now. Has she ever been locked up, smuggled drugs, etc.
Finally, she briefed through our financial documents, esp joint financial ties. She looked at our pictures and took about 5 of them. In the end, I would say 75% of the questions were directed at me.
Then she said "Congratulations, You are approved. I will have your passport stamped right now"
Then we went back downstairs and waited for maybe 10 minutes, they called Tiff's name, handed her passport back with a 551 stamp in it. She explained that the 551 stamp is like a temp greencard, she is free to travel in and out of the country. We will receive the greencard shortly.
