We arrived to the office in Chathsworth about a half hour early and parked in the free parking across the road. It's a very clean and nice business park area.
When you walk in, you immediately go through the metal detectors, and if you are there for an info pass or AOS interview, you go to the right. Bathrooms are directly in front of you, and the left room had a group of people waiting for something else.
When you get into the room, you drop your appointment notice into the box on the left of the door, and then you wait. Ugh. And wait some more. Our appointment was for 10:30am, and we did not get called in until 1:15pm.
Once called in, you swear an oath to the flag, then sit down. The officer that was interviewing us was lovely, he said he had not seen a K3 AOS in many many years, and explained that due to the rigorous requirements for a K3 applicant, there is basically nothing left to ask us, since we wouldn't have made it this far if we were phony. He said we had more than enough documentation for him to approve it without event needing to ask us questions, but he was required to at least review the I-485 ethical/legal questions with us again. He asked us a few questions around how my husband and I met, how we got the K3 to go through (lots of calls and poking and prodding to get it moved along), and explained the procedure after 20 months since the green card would be conditional. He asked us if we had any current documentation we wanted to submit, since the original application was done nearly a year ago - we gave him photos (I would suggest bringing a few, we hadn't submitted any to this point and he seemed like that was pretty important), our joint bank statements & bank immigration letter, and our proof of insurance with us listed as married and jointly insured. After that he made some copies of my birth cert and my husband's EAD, and we were sent on our way. He said he would try to review and approve that day, but wasn't sure he would have time.
We received the notification for approval the next morning, and then the confirmation that the card had been mailed about 5 days after that.
Overall it was a smooth experience, and the officer was genuinely lovely. They all seem pretty overworked there though, he said they were even further behind the previous day. They all do open door for the interviews, and walking out you can see all the piles of paperwork on everyones desks.
You can bring snacks and water with you into the building, so if you're interviewing here, I would suggest that - you probably won't get called for an interview until a few hours later than your scheduled time!
Finally done with immigration for a little while!!! javascript:emoticon('')
