Hubby has a little drama with flying from Melb to Sydney on the morning of the interview, although we planned flights with the possibility of delays in mind. He was scheduled on the 7.35am Jetstar flight due to arrive at 9am and there was an issue with the plane and they were delayed about 30 minutes. No problem in the end he had plenty of time since his interview was not until 11am. If you have the money, it is worth staying in a hotel the night before so you don't have the stress if your flight gets delayed.

He took the train from the airport to the city from the domestic terminal and got off at the St James station. The train took 15 minutes.

He arrived and went through security with no dramas and he was allowed to take the CD with his medical results that some people have reported they couldn't take and had to come back down to get.

He got upstairs, took a number and waited to be called to the window where they looked at his paperwork and then he sat back down and waited to be called for the interview.

He heard other people getting questioned quite a lot and was feeling nervous, but since our case is very straightforward, they didn't ask him too many questions. They asked where/when we met, what he planned to do for work, why we were moving, where we were planning to live, if our 3 kids where US citizens and how, what we do for work, and they asked him a few questions about our financial situation (if we own our house, cars, how much money we would likely have to take with us once we sold everything).

We were pretty prepared with evidence of our finances, since we didn't provide a joint sponsor, but one thing I forgot to provide was proof of mortgage (I had only included a rates notice and house valuation) but they were still satisfied and we were approved. He was done in about an hour total from entering the building to exiting the building.

I was very impressed with how quickly they printed and posted the visa, we received it in 48 hours.
