Interview was set at 7:45am though the consulate office won't open until 8am (weird). My wife and I waited outside until 8am to enter and went to the 2nd floor (immigration visa section), submitted all documents at the first window. Waited about 20 minutes before "pre-interview & doc check" window with a nice lady with short hair and glasses - very few questions and a smile plus fingerprint scan later we were sent to the 3rd floor (US Citizen services) to pay, and it was a mad house - bunch of people trying to get some kind of service and we waited patiently to pay for the IV fee. After payment we went back down to 2nd floor and waited and listened to other people being interviewed/grilled and watched cartoon on the TV (kids came in earlier so they switched from CNN to Cartoon Network).
When it was our turn to interview it was already past 9:30am, the interview officer was very nice, had a neat set of silver cuff links he said he got from Mexico (said his wife was a Mexican-American), the interview was pretty short, again mostly asking me what I did, football team (go Colts!), and more fingerprint taking for my wife, and waiting for the computer system to process. We were missing some documents that I forgot to bring and we were asked to bring it next Monday between 8am-11am, but we were told that we are good to go.
The docs were printed and given to my wife, she dropped it off and they took her passport along with the docs. The passport was returned to my wife 3 days later (Monday drop off, Thursday receipt).
Overall a painless, though long wait, process. I got to chat with my wife the entire time and enjoyed the quiet time without our smart phones.
