Hi there,
I will try to keep it short but informative enough.
I started my drive up to Abu Dhabi 3AM from sharjah as I wanted to be there early enough. I did manage to reach there 5:45AM. I took a few protein bars with me cuz there isn't any food options close by. I was the first one but then people start coming in by 6AM so I had to be second in line.
There are benches that you can sit on in the non-immigrant line. As it was hot as hell u will be dripping sweat. Please take water with u cuz there aren't any vending machines either.
The embassy staff shows up 7AM but start catering to the line at 7:30AM. That is when they start the fans so u can breath a little. No bathrooms either until u get in.
The first window at the front door would check your passport and validate it with your appointment letter. Once you get through the security check, no bags allowed, you must deposit your cell phone but u have to turn it off.
Once inside and you get your token number u have wait your turn.
First time I was called up the lady asked for all the documents that I brought with me. These included the legal forms like DS-160, medical report and such. Not the evidence yet. She handed me a card and circled out the amount I have to pay.
Once the payment is done(I paid in dollars). You wait again until you are called to another window. This is the actual interview. She made me take an oath, and made me write my fiancée's name on a form.
She asked me typical questions to start with.
How and when did we meet?
How did the relationship start?
What I do in UAE?
How long I have been here?
then she got into specifics of my case. She is 14yrs older to me and we have been together for 10yrs now. So she asked things like
why didn't you decide to get married earlier?
how or what caused you and her to divorce your former spouses?
We have a complicated history. One that doesn't go with the usual norms.
This is the reason why I gave the experience a rating of 4. She behaved in a very demeaning way as she obviously didn't approve of our past. The photos I submitted was basically me hanging out with my fiancée's kids and relatives so she said that "These photos don't actually establish your relationship". We are not big on selfies but she promptly, and almost threw out the 2 pics of me kissing her.
She did approve as she was being professional but she also made it abundantly clear that personally she doesn't' approve of our relationship.
I left with mixed feelings. I am happy that we got approved but a bit annoyed by the way she judged us. Lastly just stay confident and keep smiling no matter what and yeah be honest and everything would be k.
