Review Topic: K1 Visa

I had my interview appointment for 9:30 am, but since I live more than an hour away from the embassy I decided to go earlier. I arrived there around 9am and went straight to window 1. They give you the green folder and a ticket to let you in. You wait in line in Step 2, still outside for just a minute or 2 and then they let you in. Still outside the main building, but inside the embassy, I was waiting for step 3, but a nice guy asked me "are you for immigrant visa? please follow me" (I guess that step 3 is for other visas. So I went to step 4 where they take your finger print. After that you go to the last step, this time inside the main building. The asked me to wait there to be called by name. By then it was around 9:10 and I waited no more than 5 minutes and a lady called me to window 5. She said this wasn't the interview and asked me for some papers. I have a BIG folder with lots of things, copies of everything, more pictures, etc etc but she only asked me for the DHL paper, my fiance's divorce decree, 2 pictures and the medical. When she saw the pictures she said they weren't right, but she said she would see if the system could take them (!). She also saw that one of the decrees was only a copy, but said "well, the last one is an original one, so I'll ask the consul if it's ok". She was rather rude and I started to be nervous by then. She asked me how I was paying, I said I was paying there so she asked me to wait outside where they'd call by by name again to pay. Everything was so fast that I didn't even have the time to sit. I was called by name right away on window 12 to pay. I paid in Argentinian pesos at the official rate (yay!). I take sit and see a man is called to window 5. He was there less than 10 minutes. After that, they call me. The consul was very very nice. She asked me questions about my relationship and my fiance, but in a very friendly way (I had the feeling I was telling my story to a friend). She gave me back all my original papers and said "your visa is approved, enjoy California".

I was outside the embassy before 10am.

Same advice I've read here, the process is very simple, inside the embassy there are a lot of people helping you go to the right place, and they are very nice. Nothing to be worried about.
