Review Topic: K1 Visa

We arrived at the embassy around 6:50 in the morning and there were already about 20 people waiting outside. About 30 minutes later, they started checking people in and letting them pass into the embassy to get ready for their interviews. My fiance was dreading the wait because last year when she applied for her tourist visa, she had to wait outside in the cold for like two hours. This time the man guarding the door sent us right inside where there are padded benches and heat. We waited together for about 20 minutes and then they called my fiance up for fingerprints and to pay the $240. we waited another 40 minutes until they called her up to present her birth certificate, antecedents ( they ask for all 3, penales, judiciales, and policiales). They also asked her for the sealed envelope with her medical results. They asked a couple of simple questions like how did you meet and when. It wasn't an interrogation at all. The lady was very nice and treated my fiance very well. She then told my fiance to wait until the consulate called her name and that both of us go to the interview window together. I was surprised because everything I had read said that the beneficiary had to do the interview alone. Another hour and a half passed and they finally called us up to the window. The man interviewing us was an American. Really friendly and didn't ask a lot of detail with the questions. He asked us once again how we met and how many times I had been back to visit her in Peru. he also asked my fiance if she had ever applied and been denied a visa. She had, but it was a tourist visa. The consulate officer kind of laughed and said "Oh...sorry about that." I thought it was funny. He asked her if we were the same religion being that I had served an LDS mission in Peru for two years. It then went silent and he began to write some numbers down onto a different paper. while doing so, he looked up at us and smiled telling us that the visa had been approved javascript:emoticon('') . He then told us to fill out the online DHL form to have the visa sent within 1 to 2 weeks. Overall it was a great experience and The embassy was very organized and respectful
