It is very difficult to get any information out of this consulate prior to physically arriving for the interview. I called and spoke to a representative, "Adele", who told me that it is no problem at all, I (the USC spouse) would automatically be added to the security list and be allowed into the consulate for the interview. This information was completely false, I was not on the list, and I was made to wait outside for over 3 hours while my nervous wife hauled a huge stack of documents inside with her alone.
The good part is this: they are very friendly (once you get past the rude Georgian security building). My wife was inside for a long time, but they were running behind and she was really just sitting in a waiting room for almost all of this time. Once called to window #1 (window #1 = approval, window #2 = denial) she spent less than 10 minutes chatting with the Immigration Officer, mostly about me, and was told she was approved. They asked about my home address, how we met, my current and previous employer, and that was pretty much it. Upon entry, the documents are given to a Georgian employee, who is rude, and they look for specific documents, which are listed on the preparation guide the consulate provides the beneficiary upon receipt. In addition to these documents, they also wanted to see my tax returns (which are typically with the I-864).
It was weird sitting outside, because you see the people coming outside with their passport still in their hand (denied) and those without their passport, who are smiling and making phone calls (approved). There is also an auto body shop next to the security building where there is a bathroom they will let you use (after 2 hours in the cold, I really had to go). It was also weird being told by foreign citizens I couldn't just step inside and use a toilet that my tax dollars pay for.
All-in-all the experience was stressful because the long time my wife was inside felt like days since I expected to be able to escort her right in. Her experience was not all that bad, and we are now able to finally move on with our lives, TOGETHER.
