I will start by saying what my husband took to the interview and then give an overview of the interview itself. He took in an expanding file with all his forms and evidence filed, by section, inside. He took in the DS156, DS156k, DS230 Part I and II, etc. He also took: photos with photocopies in case they wanted to keep the originals (although they didn't), photocopies of my passport stamps with my trips to Cuba, photocopies of my plane tickets, phone records, records of the times I recharged his phone from here, his medical exam, the affidavit of support, police clearance letter, his "certificado de solteria", his birth certificate, and his passport. All of the evidence was from the date we filed the I-129f until the interview date.
As for the interview, this is second hand information from my husband as I did not go to the interview with him. He arrived at the park at about 6:30 in the morning. At about 7:00 AM, the officers started calling the applicants by name and, once inside, he paid the 240 CUC and was given a number. He sat in the waiting room until his number was called. The interview itself took about 20-30 minutes (he does not remember exactly). The officer who interviewed him looked at all of the evidence he took in and asked him several questions. Here are the ones he recalls:
1. As she looked through the pictures, she asked who the people in them were and when and how did he meet them.
2. Where does she stay when she visits and do you stay together?
3. What does your family think about your relationship?
4. Why did you decide to marry in the U.S. and not here?
5. What does she do for a living?
6. When did you meet?
He says he kept calm throughout the interview and answered truthfully. He was approved that same day and was given a pass to go back in a week to pick up his visa. Needless to say, we were both ecstatic! He goes back a week later, which was a Friday, and his visa was not yet ready! He was told it could take another 15 days and to come back then. The lady advised him that I check his case status online and when it said "Visa ready," to go pick it up. I spent all of Friday refreshing the visa status check page like a maniac, and mid afternoon, the status changed to "Ready." He lived four hours away from Havana and, at this point, he was almost home. He went back on Monday and his visa was there. He booked his flight on Tuesday and was here the next day!
All in all, it was a lengthy and nerve racking journey, but it all worked out in the end. Try to keep calm and have faith that your relationship is real and the interview officer will see that. I know it is difficult and these processes are long and complicated, but keep strong and you will get there! Best of luck to anyone going through this and may you be together soon!
