I arrived at the Istituto Varelli at 7:50 and I already had people in line before me. They will take your passport and tell you where to wait, then a nurse will start calling people in the same order as they arrived and will take a blood sample. After that they'll take chest x-rays, check your vaccine records, take your payment for the examination and you will have you to wait for the actual examination -they just ask for a few things, check your weight, height and whatnot. I was out by around 12:30 and was told to go to the US consulate at 2:00 PM for fingerprints -this won't take long.
The day of the interview we were told to be at the US consulate at 7:30, although they won't let you in until 8:00. First they will call people to collect all the documents listed on packet 3: BE ORGANIZED AND KNOW WHERE THEY ARE. You will also be handed a big envelope with your chest x-rays, vaccination documents the doctor filed out and receipt. After than they'll call your name for the actual interview. Mine was short and I did my best to give exhaustive answers to anything I was asked. They will let you know right away if your visa is approved -mine was.
