Our interview went really smooth.
We arrived at the consulate about 6:30. I know it's early but we didn't realize that the train would be that fast. We were the first in line and when another couple arrived they held our space for us to go have breakfast. I was nervous/excited and wanted to wait in line. We went back at 7:00 a.m.
Some time between 7:30 and 7:40 they called us in. We purposely left everything at the hotel so we could go right in. We went up to the second floor and took a "senha". Since we were first in line we were the first to hand in our documents. It was great because they gave us a list of the order. I didn't have copies of my taxes, letter of employment, or letter from the bank so they sent us across the street to make copies. The woman told us that we could immediately give them to her - and not wait.
We waited for everyone to hand in their documents and then the consular started the interviews. We were second to be interviewed - I think because we had to run out to make copies. The second couple went first and we were interviewed second.
The interviews began a bit after 9:00 a.m.
The consular was very nice and spoke to me in English about Manaus (where my fiance is from). He asked me how I learned Portuguese and we made some small talk. He spoke Portuguese well.
Then he took my fiances fingerprints and had him sign 3 papers. Afterwards he started the interview (in Portuguese). He asked when we met, how long we starte dating after we met, what my fiance did in Brasil and what he planned to do in the U.S. When my fiance told him we lived together he seemed satisfied. He basically wanted to know our "timeline" - when we met, when I was in Brasil, etc.
He wanted to see pictures so I showed him a scrapbook I'd made. I opened it and in Portuguese we explained a bit of the pictures.
The interview was short and sweet. Someone waiting in the "waiting room" said we were in there for 6 minutes.
The consular was very nice and we were out of the consulate by 9:30 a.m.
