Had an interview today for my wife's AOS to green card. It was at 12:30pm, we arrived just after noon and waited in a line for 5 minutes to go through security. Just like the airport, minus the shoes removal.
The interview notice said first floor, but security directed us to second floor. We checked in with the reception desk, and they took the interview letter, confirmed our ID's and told us our name will be called. The waiting room is huge, multiple doors where IO's come out and call names. Very spacious and modern.
We waited about 20-30 minutes and then we were called. The IO led us to his office and he confirmed our ID's again and wrote down my DL #. Our casefile is massive, probably 6". I asked him about it at the end and he said it has our K-1 visa initial filing as well as AOS on the other side attached to the top with a metal clasp through 2 holes in the papers. Let's just say that I submitted everything that I could possibly think of for the initial filing and her AOS.
He asked my wife basic questions like my full name including middle name, where we live right now, her SSN, my phone number, what kind of place we live in, and who lives there. He then proceeded to confirm all of the terrorist/spy/fraud questions at the bottom of the i-485.
After this, he asked us about our relationship story. Basically just confirmed what was already known in the declaration of relationship that I submitted with her AOS explaining our entire story. In the middle of explaining it to him, he asked to see photos so I showed him about 20 photos that I prepared. I expected him to take a few, but he didn't. He asked us who all the people were in the photos as well and we both told him without any trouble since we had photos of her family during my trip to China last year for her k-1 Interview in Guangzhou and my family at our wedding/reception and Christmas.
After this, he asked me if I had anything else to add to the casefile, and I told him yes. I pulled out my spiral folder and handed him our joint account bank statements, life insurance with my wife as beneficiary, wife's life insurance for her through my work, apartment lease with my wife added, Medical and Dental insurance bills and doctor receipts with my wife as patient name, and insurance summary from my work with my wife's added. He actually handed back the lease and insurance document minus the first 3 pages, as he said that was plenty of proof, lol. I wanted to give him some utility bills with both our names, and other documents but he said it wasn't necessary and congratulations you are approved!
The IO handed us a document say that we weren't approved, but under further review was needed. He explained that the document just means that they need to review our case further, but her green card will arrive within 30 days He added that the case status would change by the end of the day to card production to reflect this.
Our case status tracking went from Initial Review to Decision in about 20 minutes after the interview and then went to post decision activity about 5 minutes after that and then Card production in about 10 minutes after that, lol.
So happy now! We will be making a trip to the SSN office yet again to remove the "DHS authorization required" from her SSN card to get her permanent card.
