As many others have posted, we basically had a pretty smooth experience. As the USC, I went with my fiance and was told that as a USC, I am welcome to come up with him and did not need to be on the official visitor's list. We were swiftly sent up to the top floor with no hassle, after clearing security.

Despite being one of the first appointments of the day, there were still about 8 other applicants ahead of us, and it took a good 45 minutes before being called up. The initial paperwork check caused us a bit of dismay, only because the lady apologized and said that they should have told us ahead of time that they use a distinct form to request NZ police certificates, rather than how we applied directly to NZ police. So this meant we were unable to get a final answer that day!

She then asked us to have a seat, and the Consular Officer called us up a few minutes later. He initially looked a bit shocked that I was with my fiance, but said I was welcome to stand with him.

The questions asked were very similar as others have already posted - the first one was for my fiance to please summarize our relationship. This threw my fiance off a bit, but he rallied and ran through the details. He was asked various questions about his plans, why he chose me as his partner, and whether we had bought property together while living in NZ. He asked why we had not gotten married in NZ as well, but was fine with our answer (that the K-1 meant getting to the USA faster, despite the extra hassle and cost).

He then said that the application looked fine, and that he'd just need to wait for the NZ police certificate. We did see the magical red "APPROVED" stamp on the front of the file, but I left feeling rather nervous and uncertain, as I've learned to trust nothing until you get the final answer, haha!

20 days later, during my obsessive multiple daily checks on CEAC, we finally saw the wonderful "Visa Issued" status message, and got his passport and packet soon thereafter.

As I said, despite the oversight on their part for not telling us about the NZ police certificate, and the fact that there is no such information on their website and they said nothing after everything we sent in, they were very nice.
