We interviewed last week at the Detroit USCIS office.
My wife, who came into the USA on a K1 visa, and I checked in. We came alone without an interpreter or attorney. Her name was called and we followed the officer into his office. Before sitting down, we raises our right hands and swore to tell the truth.
We sat down and he looked through our file noting that she arrived legally on a K1 visa and that we got married within 90 of her entry and that everything looked good. He then asked us the various "have you ever..." questions in the i485 to which she answered "no" each time. He then asked about our jobs and we had a nice conversation about that. Then he said, "I'm going to grant your status" and told us that we should receive her conditional green card in 7-10 business days.
He instructed us what evidence we need to collect for the removal of conditions which we need to apply for within 90 days of expiration date of her conditional green card. Some of this was represented in documents we brought to the interview such as joint bank account statements, photos, joint utility bills, joint medical insurance documents, joint car title, and joint car insurance. The officer was very personable, professional, and helpful...we felt comfortable going into the interview and we left very happy.
N.B. The interview appointment notice lists a bunch of documents that you need to bring to the interview. We were prepared with a nice thick stack of papers containing originals and copies of each of these documents. During this interview, the officer did not request to see any of this stuff. But I would not advise anyone to blow off these instructions on the appointment notice. Our case is pretty solid with no red flags (our immigration attorney told us not to worry during the entire process). Now we can start booking trips out of the country including our honeymoon trip
