It was difficult dealing with the NVC because they send our approved petition to the wrong consulate. We were told it could take up to three months for the approved petition to reach the correct consulate. After two weeks, my fiancee and I called every day to inquire about the petition. I got to know all the representatives answering the phones! We finally got some help from one of the representatives on 2 Jan who asked us to complete all tasks (creation of profile, etc) and have all documents ready in case he could request an interview date for us. He did, and we were scheduled for 8 Jan.
The consulate experience was less stressful. She arrived at the consulate at 7 am; her appointment was at 8:30am. The officer was asking individuals to stand in separate lines according to the times of their appointments. She was the first in line for her appointment time.
As she entered, they scanned her purse, etc: standard procedures. She was told to get into a specific line, which she did, and then waited for the next available agent. When she was called, the agent collected all documents and gave her a number, for her interview.
When her number was called, she entered another secure area and led to a waiting area. When she was called by the consulate representative, she went to the teller-like window. Her interview was conducted there. She was asked three questions, showed one picture, which was only glanced at, and then told she was approved. The interview took no more than 5 minutes!
We are happy with the service and experience at the embassy. She was treated well. However, we are not at all happy with the NVC. They caused our case to be delayed.
