Today I went with my sister in law to help her with her interview for a tourist visa to the US.

We arrived on the 6:30 am train - me without any sleep all night and her getting some cat naps in during the train ride to Casablanca.

We waited at a nearby cafe till 7:30 and then joined the line across the street. The Moroccan Army sorted people by their citizenship, paperwork and who had appointments or not.

We were told to go wait till 8:30 am before my sister in law could rejoin the line.

At 8:30 she rejoined the line and then was sent across the street to wait to be called for her visa interview.

My sister in law was first asked BEFORE the interview to go get new visa photos - which she did at an extra 100DH expense for two.

She then rushed back to the consulate and went into her interview.

She was asked 3 questions -
Why do you want to go to America?

Are you married?

Who is paying for you to go to America?

My sister in law explained to Q1 that she wanted to go to America to help her sister who is expecting her second child via C section and because she doesn't speak English well needs help with translation while in the hospital and she needs help at home because with the C section she can't lift anything heavier than the new baby and her husband is the sole income earner - so he can't take off work and cover the costs of the new baby.

She also explained that because her sisters first child has severe asthma that going outside triggers it - so preschool or sending him to an outside caregiver wouldn't work.

She isn't married or engaged and said so.

She explained that her sisters husband would be covering all the costs related to the trip.

The lady denied her visa and when my sister in law asked her to look at the supporting paperwork - she refused.

I asked if the woman gave my sister in law a reason for the visa denial - she said she didn't - all she got was a standard one sheet visa denial letter in Arabic/French

I asked my sister in law how many other people got a tourist visa today - none she told me and the same case will all the Moroccan's applying for student visas. Only one case that was a CR/IR visa seemed to have a positive ending.

Any ideas on why her visa was denied??
