We had an overall great experience. Our appt. was 1030 am and we got there at 930am. We were called up to the gate by security and went through security clearance, given a locker and directed to go inside. My fiance went ahead of me although I was the the US citizen the guards thought it necessary to search me and ask me a few questions (weird but at this point I just wanted to get through the process. We entered an outside waiting area and waited for about 10 mins before my fiance's name was called over loud intercom. We went to the window announced on the speaker and met with a local lady with a flat affect. She asked for our documents, who is petitioning for my fiance to which my fiance said "she's right here," and pointed to me, while I simultaneously said "I am". The lady looked like don't be smart with me and so he said "my fiance" She asked how we would be paying the visa fee "Guyanese or US dollars" and went ahead to say some other things about the fee. So I said "babe take the money out" and he took it out and counted the amount. The lady yelled at my fiance "HEY DON'T YOU COUNT MONEY HERE DO THAT AT THE CASHIER." We just thought we were giving her the money since she asked so much about it. There was no need for the rudeness. We apologized and he went to the ashier to pay. I asked if she needed the co-signer finances and she said no. She directed us to go back to the waiting are. We went back and in about 20 mins we were called for the interview.
We met with a really nice younger gentleman who asked us about 4 questions mainly when/how we met, how many times I visited my fiance, when I plan on going back to the US (this was in case we wanted to travel back they would say whether or not they could get us the visa in time) and he looked at a couple pictures and asked where we took them. He then asked my fiance if he got a chance to go over the domestic abuse document and my fiance said "yes". The immigration officer then joked "so if she beats you up you know what to do" we all laughed so hard and I said "OH GOD" and my fiance said jokingly "Yes I know" He asked my fiance if he has an ID card and my fiance proceeded to take out his wallet. The officer said no hold onto to it for when you come to pick up your passport and handed him a blue slip and gave us a dated to come back ( 1 week). We were both stunned it took less than 5 minutes. So my fiance was like are we done and I asked did we get through? The officer said YES in a kind DUH way! We walked out still shocked. We didn't cry and hug or anything like that. We were just puzzled because we expected an examination of questions and a long process. The whole thing took less than an hour from the time we got to the gate to leaving the consulate.
We called our mom's first, went out to lunch and were so happy ))
