Consulate / USCIS Member Review #13407

Review Topic: K1 Visa

My daughter (K2) and I (K1) had our interview on November 8, 2013. Besides the guards at the entrance of the consulate, which are pretty rough (rude), everything went well.

First an officer reviewed our documentation. They asked for:
-Form DS-160 for K1 and K2. Although the invitation letter from the Consulate told we needed to present DS-260, at the CAS they indicated that the processes had changed and DS-260, DS-156 and DS-156K were no longer required, just DS-160 for for both of us. I brought all of them just in case.
-Original and copy of birth certificates (with translation) for K1 and K2.
-Original and copy of divorce sentence (with translation) for K1.
-Affidavit of support and supporting documentation (letter from my fiance's work stating salary, payment stubs, 401K and pension balances is what I presented).

After reviewing the documents, the officer included the papers in the file and told me to go to the cashier to show the payment of my visa requests.

Then I waited a little longer (~10 min) and we were called for the interview. Questions were:
Does your fiance speak Spanish? No
Do you speak English then? Yes. The rest of the interview was in English.
How did the two of you meet?
How long have you been dating?
What do you do for a living?
Where are you planning to live when you go the the US?
Where does your fiance work?

The officer asked my daughter:
Do you know Brian?
Is he nice to you?

Next thing, she checked the rest of the file very quickly, saw the pics on the original file submitted and said that our visa had been approved. She then proceeded to void our B1/B2 visas.

I asked her if I could get my originals back and she said that in principle they need to keep them. I insisted and explained why I needed them (i.e. birth certificate was used as ID for daughter for in-country flight) and she gave me my divorce sentence and my daughter's birth certificate back.

I wouldn't say the officers were friendly, but they were professional and conducted properly at all times.
