Jamaica Review on November 30, 2013:

Review Topic: IR-1/CR-1 Visa

My husband had his interview on Tuesday, November 26th at 8am. We left Negril at 3am and hit traffic in Kingston so we arrived at the embassy exactly at 8am. There was a short line of applicants waiting to get in and someone checking appointment letters. I asked if I could go into the embassy with my husband and informed them that I was a US citizen but they said only the beneficiary was allowed inside the building. I was given permission to wait in the courtyard in front of the building but most others were told they had to wait across the street. After about 4 hours of waiting I saw my husband emerge from the building. I thought he was finished but then he told me that the CO wanted to meet me. I went through security and was directed to a section of other IR/CR1 filers. I waited with me husband for about 20 minutes until we were both called up to the window. A slim, greyish haired white man greeted me with smiles and swore me in. He then proceeded to tell me that he was concerned because my husband wasn't remembering the dates of my last trips. He asked me to show him our recent photos and tell him the months they were taken. I then proceed to tell him I've been to Jamaica 14 times and his eyes lit up. He said "and you don't have family here or anything so you are flying down every two to three months just to see your husband." And then he asked me how many times since our wedding I've been to see Omar and I said 8. And his attitude totally changed. He then asked if ours was a marriage of love and I said absolutely. With that he asked my husband for his passport and checked his medical. He then said we would have the visa in approximately one week unless any issues come up with his name or something. A very nice guy. He asked my husband (before I went in) the following questions:

- Where and how did we meet
- Do you we have recent photos from my last trip
- Where am I now
- Has my husband ever travelled to the US before
- Has my husband been picked up by the police before
- When was I last in Jamaica (not remembered by my husband)

We left the embassy at 12:30pm. All in a all a good experience. There were tons of people inside. Right before us a couple with two children were told that their application was being sent back to USCIS and the embassy would take no further action on it. I was freaking out... Another woman got turned away because her income wasn't sufficient.

Oh one last thing: the CO told my husband that there are a lot of scammers that come through and that's why he grilled him about the date of my last trip. He begged him to give him a date and my husband told him September (which was correct).
