Review Topic: K1 Visa

We got the embassy around 6AM and began waiting in line on the left side. We were the second case. A few moments later we notice that another line was forming on the right side. We were confused and people we saying that the left line we were in is for those who are planning to visit and the right line is for those who intend to immigrate. So we moved over to the right line. By then we were like #4-5. Then moments later it happened again and we switched to the left line quickly and remained in #4. We were holding our breath hoping this was the right decision and after what seems like forever, the guard came out and confirm that there is only ONE LINE! 7:30AM came and the door began to open and they let a few people in at a time, so to not hold traffic inside the check bag area. Nothing personal is allowed (bags, phones) beside the case. Passed security check and off to the next door where we entered and had to first seat in an orderly fashion (first come first serve) because none of the windows were available yet (windows like at the bank/DMV). When window #1 opened, we formed a line base on our seating and grab a number. Returned to seat (anywhere this time) and waited til our number was called. The first time it was called we both went up to submit our document. The person at the window confirmed with my fiance his name and birthday. I believe they asked my fiance to write my name and sign his name. After all document has been looked at and confirmed we were asked to report to window #7 (cashier) to pay for our visa $240 USD. Then we had to go take a seat again. The 2nd time our number was called my fiance went up to the window and got his fingerprinted. I sat and waited because I knew it was an easy task, plus the person (african american guy) happens to speak Khmer. After the fingerprint we sat down again. Finally our number was called to window #4 and this time it was the interview. I went up with my fiance and after saying "Hi" I remained quiet as to not interfere with the interview until asked. They asked my fiance standard questions like how and when we met, how long was my stay during the first meeting and if we planned our engagement prior to my 2nd trip or during my 2nd trip. The person who interview us was American but he spoke Khmer. At one point his Khmer was broken, the sentence was too lengthly that my fiance could not follow and he looked blank so the interviewer asked me if my fiance understood. At that time I translate to my fiance and he answered. The interviewer thanked me for my help and knew that I was capable of translating. I told him I am a freelance translater/intrepreter. From there on everything was a breeze. Questions that I thought should be directed to my fiance end up being answered by me. He asked what else do I do for a living and how much I get paid. I've submitted my employer verification which includes my salary already so it was upfront but I guess he just wanted to hear it from me. At least he asked my fiance where we plan to have our wedding. My fiance answered "at the restuarant". The interviewer then told my fiance to come pick up his visa next Friday at 11am. The interview probably last less than 10 mins. No additional Khmer translator needed. Prior to our turn we witness like 5 case being turned away. Some were spouse visa, otherers were visitors and fiance. A monk was also denied. A girl was up at the window for maybe over an hour. She was alone and the interview kept going back and forth. At the end she didn't get a visa pick up slip. We both walked out of the room happily and those that we passed by asked and we were glad to tell them that we passed!

We returned on Friday at 11am sharp. The traffic police said only my fiance was allowed in so I waited in the car. After an hr. my fiance came back out with a big yellow sealed envelope.

POE was SFO and I waited with my fiance in the vistor line which was a bit long. But once we got to the officer together we handed the yellow envelope. He welcomed my fiance to America and congratulate the both of us. Now we are off to plan our wedding here in USA and continue our journey.
