Review Topic: K1 Visa

My fiance had her interview for K-1 in Abu Dhabi on February 12, 2007 and picked up her visa February 14th, Valentines day, and my birthday! Here was her experience at the Abu Dhabi Embassy:

My fiance arrived about an hour and a half before the interview time, to make sure she was there, and processed in with time to spare. The guards were very nice, but initially very concerned about the very large paper bag she was carrying. (She brought everything she could think of to show our relationship, along with the actuall documentation required.) The guards were very friendly after determining her suspicious bag was merely a ton of paperwork.

My fiance wanted to let everyone know the two things she felt were important for the interview:

First: Have faith in God. Pray before your interview.

Second: YOU (Through your effort and hard work on your documentation, study, and organization will have confidence going in to your interview.) Think positive and tell yourself you can make, and you are ready!

P.S. We both highly recommend following the guides here on VisaJourney, they are great and will help build your confidence in being ready for your interview.

My fiance organized her paperwork into clear plastic folders (she really liked how she could look into each one to determine its contents at a glance by looking at the first page inside.)

Since she was early, she sat down and went through her paperwork again, which helped came her down. She was very nervous! The guards had been very friendly, making her smile. They had, as mentioned, been concerned about the size of her bag. She had asked them why it wasn't ok, and they laughed and told her they had thought perhaps she had a bomb inside.

Once inside she took a number, hers was 024 and sat down to wait and review her paperwork. When her number was called about an hour later, she and another couple walked up to the window. At Abu Dhabi, interviews take place at a window, not a private room. (She counted 11 windows, and the waiting room was very crowded.) The couple also had the same number! But the interviewer told them they had to wait as she was ready for my fiance.

My fiance was a little shy about interviewing at the window, because everyone behind you could hear what you say, but she got through it. The interviewer was a pretty lady, very serious, who asked her:

Describe your fiance?
How much does he earn?
Where does he work?
Do you have a copy of your passport and NBI (Philippine National police report?)

This first interview lasted about ten or fifteen minutes, and all of the necessary paperwork was taken from my fiance at the end of it. This first lady took the paperwork into a back room, and returned one document, a Custody Order, for some reason (I included it to show child support income.) Guess they didn't need it, since my income from employement was considerably over the income requirements.

My fiance was told to sit back down and wait. Abut half an hour or so passed, and another pretty lady called her to a window. She had all of the paperwork, and asked a second round of questions:

Mainly about me, her fiance.
How we met? Where? When?
The interviewer produced a picture of my two children (making my fiance smile) and asked her to describe them, ages, names etc.
The interviewer asked her what we would do if the visa was denied. (This question suprised her, and she thought a moment then told the lady, we did not plan to fail. )

Then she was asked to sit down again. A third lady called her to a window and told her the K-1 Visa was approved. She thought she had heard wrong, so asked for clarification... "YES, your fiance petition has been approved, you can come back in two days, at 2 pm and pick up your visa." She was given a pink slip to come back and collect the visa.

My fiance packed up her things, and left. On the way out, the guards asked her how it went, and smiled when she showed them her pink slip and told them the visa was approved. She was the second to last person out, having spent about four and a half hours in the embassy.
