The following is timeline of our experience.
6:40 am: We arrived at the embassy and stood in line outside. There were about 7 people in front of us.
7:00 am: Either security or an embassy employee moved the line closer to the entrance of the embassy. The embassy employee then asked to see everyone's appointment letter and she verified the appointment time and checked it against a sheet she was carrying.
7:10 am: We were allowed entrance into the embassy in groups of 4 to pass through security. Passing through security is very similar to an airport, empty all items from your pockets, any bags that are carried in get scanned, walk through metal detectors, etc. One thing worth mentioning, any electronic devices, including car keys that have the remote door lock control are held at this first security checkpoint and you are given a card with a number to identify you and your items.
7:15 am: We walked a short distance and arrived at an entrance to another building. Here is where we were split into lines of immigrant visa applicants and non-immigrant visa applicants. We were the first immigrant visa applicants so we passed through the entrance and walked through another set of metal detectors.
7:20 am: The waiting area is pretty cozy and narrow. The room has two basic portions, with a set of windows for each. There are no physical dividers between portions, but it is clear there is a side for non-immigrant visa applicants and immigrant visa applicants. There are several benches that seat two persons, with two sets of these small benches in a row. The rows are lined up such that if you sit facing the entrance, the windows will be at your right side.
8:05 am: My fiancé was called to window 10. This is where she was asked for the required forms, i.e. 156/156K, and I think she was asked for I-134 also. My fiancé was given a green paper to pay for the interview at window 14.
8:15 am: My fiancé was called to window 13, but she was still standing at window 14 because no one was available to accept payment. So she leaned over and showed the green paper to he embassy employee in window 13 and then someone came quickly to accept payment at window 14.
8:25 am: My fiancé was called to window 13 and this time I accompanied her. The embassy employee asked for the rest of the paperwork, i.e. birth certificate, police records, passport, passport photos, statement from my employer and bank statement, DHL registration, etc. This is where medical results are also turned in, but since we are still waiting on those we didn't have any to turn in, more on that later. My fiancé also did the digital finger prints at this point. The embassy employee asked my fiancé a few questions. How did we meet, how many times and when did I visit, how many times has my fiancé been to the US. While my fiancé was answering the embassy employee was typing information into a computer. Also the embassy employee organized everything we turned in, glued the passport photos to the actual visa applications, etc. The embassy employee, a lady, wasn't rude, serious at times but never rude. This all took approximately 25 minutes and then we sat down.
9:15 am: My fiancé was called to room 15 and again I accompanied her. Inside this room is another window much like the ones in the waiting area, except it's lower and we sat in chairs. Here another lady, embassy employee, sat at a computer and looked over our information. She asked my fiancé the same questions asked at window 13. The embassy employee, who I'm pretty sure is from the US, was really sweet and seemed to be interested in our story. After she looked over our info in the computer system and looked over our paperwork we turned in, she told us,"looks like love to me!" However, the best she could tell us is that we are approved pending the medical results since we didn't have any to turn in. So the really sweet embassy employee said when they receive the results and the results are good (which they should be because we called the clinic and we were told the sputum test results were negative), someone from the embassy will call my fiancé to bring in her passport to be issued the K-1 visa!
9:30 am: We left the embassy excited beyond belief and the celebration started! You may have noticed that I didn't mention anything about evidence. We took a mountain of evidence and we were never asked to show a single piece of it! All in all it was a great experience, but now we must endure the wait of the medical results.
