My interview was 24 Sept & scheduled for 10:30am - I arrived at the Sydney consulate at 10am, went through security (who were absolutely lovely, by the way - I was expecting a lot of intimidation, but was pleasantly surprised) which took less than 5 minutes.
I was then taken up to the correct level where I was asked for ID & checked off a list of names before being buzzed into the room. I then had to take a ticket for my visa type and take a seat. It was pretty busy (that's my only complaint about the whole interview process - my interviewer actually apologised to me and admitted they were very behind that day).
After an hour of sitting, my number was finally called and I went to a window where my prints were electronically taken (again! How many times do they need it for this whole process!?!). The lady behind the window wasn't very friendly but she wasn't unfriendly either - so pretty neutral, I suppose! She went through all my docs, asked me for anything extra I was told to bring. Did some data entry on her comp and clarified a few more form questions. She handed me back my document originals (that I had sent in with packet 3) and I was then told to sit back down and wait for my number to be called again for the actual interview.
I was waiting for another hour before I was called up again. It was very quick & painless though. I was again electronically fingerprinted and had to raise my right hand and swear that all my forms and docs were true & correct to the best of my knowledge. No problems there. My interviewer was very friendly, the only questions I was asked were;
- What is your fiance's name?
- How/Where did you meet? (a few more questions arose but they were to do with this basic Q)
- What does he do for a living?
- What is his position in that job?
- Do you plan to work when you arrive?
- When do you plan on moving over?
- Where will you be living?
- How old is your son?
- Is he a USC?/Will he be moving with you?
We also had a co sponsor and she asked the following Q's about that;
- What is her relationship to me/my fiance?
- Where does she work?
- What is her position in that job?
- Will she be helping to support me?
She then told me everything looked great and I was approved - it was all over after maybe 15 mins of conversation :-)
I got out the building just after 12:30pm so all up it took 2.5 hours (2 hrs of that was just WAITING). Definitely a good experience - even though I was sick to my stomach with nerves!
