Review Topic: K1 Visa

I went to the interview knowing I won’t come back with the visa. I had to take extra medical tests and the results will take few more weeks. I arrived at the embassy nice and early. We were told to wait outside until 1pm.

At 1pm, they let us in, one by one. I proceeded to the waiting area where I had to wait for my name to be called. Eventually, my name was called at window 3. The lady asked for my passport, my unabridged birth certificate then she asked for my visa photos. She looked at my photos, she looked at me, looked at my photos. She told me those are not visa photos, they are passport photos. I had to run to the mall across the road and have my visa photos taken.

I ran back and went straight to window 3. I gave her my photos and she carried on with the interview. She asked:

When and where did we meet?
How often do we see each other?
When was the last time we saw each other?

I gave her some additional information as proof of relationship. She asked if I’m aware of the amount I have to pay? I said I remember reading something like that months ago. Well, she gave me a receipt for $240 and told me to go pay at the cashier. After paying I waited for another round, the final interview.

My name was called. I was asked more or less the same questions. I was then asked to take an oath and sign the DS230 form. The gentle man handed me a pink slip and told me that as soon as they receive my medical results, they will contact me so I can courier my passport.

All in all, it was a very pleasant experience.
