The interview was in Portuguese so I could not understand all that was being said. But I could tell by the tone of their voices and the look on Rosana’s face something was wrong. (I never had seen Rosana look like this before.) That is when I asked the consul about what they speaking about? The consul told me she had lied on her application for the tourist visa that she was still in relationship with Lais’s father at the time she applied for the tourist visa.
The consul tried to trick me as well with this statement. I spoke to Rosana about what the consul said to me and she explained to me what he was speaking about. I then questioned the consul and it was clear he only made this statement to me because she never mentioned she was coming to USA to visit me at the time she applied for her tourist visa. And that is when I became upset with him and told him she was not lying; she only did not give full details about everything due to the problem woman have getting tourist visa.
The consul told me the woman does not have problems getting tourist visa if they are honest, I told the consul she was honest and I disagree with him. I went on to explain that a decision about marriage was not fully made at the time Rosana applied for the tourist visa, and until Rosana could see how I live and what USA is like it would have been crazy for her to make such a decision because she had a good life and a good job at the time. The consul agreed with me. I went on to tell the consul she was not in relationship with Lais’s father at the time, and I had come to Brazil on my second trip just to meet Lais’s father so he could know me. And as far as I was concerned all this had nothing to do with what we were there for now!!!
Rosana told me later she became more scared when my tone of voice became bad to the consul. I was upset with the way the consul tried to twist everything and remember telling him at one point the only thing I knew was I love Rosana, and Lais and wanted them to be able to come to USA, marry and have a family, etc, etc. Then I was waiting for his rebuttal, and for him to speak to me like he spoke to Rosana.
Instead, he spoke in Portuguese again and asked Rosana about her health. She told him she had high blood pressure and he asked her if she was taking medication for this and she replied yes. I looked at him and asked him what he said to her? But he only asked me where I worked and what I did for a living. I answered where I worked and what I did at my job, and told him if he needed to know anything more the company I work for he could look it up on the internet!!! The consul spoke to Rosana but he did not reply to me he only looked at me grabbed the green card and stamped it. Rosana jumped up out of the seat and hugged me very much. Rosana told me later she believes he asked her about her health to see if she would lie to him because he already had seen her medical.
All during the interview I felt the consul watched Rosana, Lais and me and paid attention to the way we all interacted and our body language. (it was Rosana’s facial expressions and hand movement that told me to intervene.) Even though the consul never questioned Lais he watched her very much during the time he was speaking to Rosana and when I became upset with him. At the time my tone of voice changed with the consul, Lais grabbed my arm and the consul watched her for a moment, but Lais never spoke, and never did the consul ask her any question..
