On June 27, 2013, my husband (who came down to Jamaica hours earlier) and i arrived at the embassy in Kingston, and was greeted by the usually crowded group of applicants.
I had a 9:00am interview. A team of security officers will direct you accordingl you enter as the embassy the usual. Please be sure to indicate that you are a immigrant visa applicant so you will be placed in the right group of applicants.
Upon entering, the building, my first stop was at the security post, where you will get a service number ticket, and a yellow strip of paper on which you will write your passport number and keep for you personal record.
I was then instructed to proceed to sit on the right once I enter the building. My first call was the the fingerprinting window, where preliminary questioning also takes place.
Questions asked included:
1. Have you ever stayed more tan six months in the US?
2. Have you ever been arrested or deported from another country?
This initial questioning was done by a very pleasant Jamaican embassy officer. She also explained to me that my file was excellent except I may have a problem because we might have used the wrong version of the I-864 form, and this will require my husband filling out and signing the appropriate one. That did not sound like too much of a big problem since my husband could easily have the appropriate one completed and sign that day if we given the time to.
Anyway, I sat for a another 3 hours while other interviews took place. The interviewing officer usually call you name when they were ready to do your interview, instead of calling a number, so you have to listen carefully.
Finally I called by an officer, who I knew, everyone by now was praying they never had to deal with, since he spoke louder, asked more probing questions, and seemed to be sending everyone away to get more prove, their spouses, and more information. At that point I knew that none of these persons were aware of the visa journey site, as these impending issues are normally discussed here and many members benefited from the discussion in preparing for their interview.
This very same 'tough' officer was most pleasant to me, we just had a conversation about anything else but my case. In the middle of our casual conversation he asked my 4 questions:
1. When did you meet your husband?
2. How long after you met him did you both got married?
3. Where and What do you do for work?
4. Where and What does your husband do for work?
Conversation ended by him, saying "Well Mrs....as is customary I am going to go ahead and cancel your 10-year visitor visa. You are approved. You may have your photos back that you sent as I know they are important to you. Please take this card as a receipt for your passport that I will keep, and have a good!"
I replied "And you have yourself a wonderful rest of the day"
A time-consuming but a walk in-the-park experience for me. ALL I CAN SAY IS THAT VISAJOURNEY IS THE BESSSSSSSSSSSSSSST!
