We got to the embassy at about 7:30 am. The line to get in was fairly short for us. We went straight to the people and asked them about the line for residence. We went through security then sat in the yard where they have a space designated as a waiting area. We waited there for a while, at least an hour. While sitting there I had to go to the bathroom. I went. The stalls had no doors and you were looking at people going about their business. I didn't like that at all. I was annoyed that they did that to people. So went back to my husband. Then they called us inside the building. On the right, was the room for people requesting visas. On the left, for residence/green card. We were asked to sit at one spot, then the security decided that we were not supposed to be there but against the wall. We sat there a while. Then they said that we were not supposed to be sitting there, so we got separated. My husband sat somewhere and me a different spot. When he was getting close to the window, I was called to sit by him. My take away is that the security didn't know what they were doing. But they were nice though. We finally got to the window where they were taking the information from us. The lady there was also very nice, it was already 10:50 am by that time. She asked a few questions. Asked for our missing information (extrait des archives for the birth certificate which we didn't have) We did have the attestation stating that his mom came in late to declare the birth) I also forgot to make a copy of that  which the lady made. She was super nice. So she asked us where we got married. Who was sending for my husband, my name. After we were done with her (about 20 mnts) we sat down. About 5 minutes later we got called for finger print. Lady was nice there too. Went back to sitting. Then the CO called us. She asked my husband to raise his left hand to swear that everything we represented was truthful. She asked a few questions
Where did we meet?
Are we related (I guess because we said we grew up together in the same town)?
She took one picture of the ones we had sent in with the I-130 and asked about the people in the picture (wedding picture) My husband told her. Then she pointed to my husband's daughter and asked: is that your daughter? We didn't even tell her that she was. I suppose she figured it out
She asked my husband about his divorce papers (who had done the filing for him)
My husband replied the attorney and she asked for the name of the attorney
My husband had gone for a tourist visa prior to us sending in the I-130 and was denied. My husband had told them at the time that he wasn't interested in staying in the US which he wasn't because I was supposed to move back to Haiti in April. So the CO asked him why did he say that he wasn't interested at the time but filed for residency a few weeks later.
After replying to all the questions, she was like congratulations welcome to the US and I went a big yes with hand gesture. So my husband and the CO both laughed at me.
Then we were sent to the front to set up for messenger service. Visa will be ready in 8 days.
They didn't ask for my 2012 income tax nor western union receipts, nor additional pictures, nor phone logs and the likes.
I didn't like the setting of the interview because everyone could hear the questions being asked. Though they may or may not hear your answer. I found it to be too impersonal but what am I going to do???
The worst for us was the wait inside. But once the process started it was less than 45 minute. Honestly hearing other people's comments I was expecting worst. But it wasn't as bad. Good luck to everyone else.
