After reading all of the horror stories about Casablanca, I never thought I'd write a positive review.
I won't re-hash what's already been said about getting through security and the collection of paperwork except for the following:
- when my fiance was waiting outside he saw a red-haired woman walk inside the consulate, he said he had a feeling she would conduct his interview
-my fiance was allowed to enter the consulate at 2:30. A half hour before his appointment time
- organized and correctly filled out paperwork is EXTREMELY important, my fiance felt they paid a lot of attention to that
- the chest x-ray for the medical was given back to my fiance
After the collection of the paperwork, my fiance was told to have a seat and wait to be called for his interview. While waiting, he noticed the same red-haired woman he saw outside looking at our petition. Sure enough, that was his interviewer. After signing part II of DS 230, fingerprinting, and swearing to tell the truth, the interview began.
- when did you meet your fiancee?
- when did she visit?
- when did she become Muslim?
- what's your plan when you come to the US?
- have you ever had any trouble with the police? LOL!!
She told my fiance everything looked good and that he could pick up his visa Wednesday or Thursday (he's not sure of which day she said so we have to call tomorrow and verify. He as given a paper explaining his rights int he US, and a pink receipt for his passport. N
As others have said, the interview flowed like a conversation. Other questions were asked but were based on the information my fiance provided. She was very kind and respectful and allowed my fiance to complete his thoughts, she even laughed and some of the funny things he told her. He said she only interrupted him once. All of the staff (even the security) were helpful and friendly. We couldn't be happier with the experience.
Nuggets of Advice:
Though we had plenty of it, my fiance was NOT ASKED FOR ANY EVIDENCE. This was most interesting to me because for months I had read that front-loading the with the I-129F was a must for "high-fraud" consulates. Well, we didn't front-load the petition at all. We simply included the forms required by USCIS plus 6 photos of the two of us(NO photos with family), passport stamps, and flight itineraries, and signed letters of intent. That was it, our petition was simple and straight forward. I'm not saying that front-loading isn't beneficial,but it's obviously not a deal-breaker like everyone is told on VJ. So,if you don't have mountains of evidence to include with the petition, don't worry. If you are fortunate enough to be able to visit, or even live with your fiance, by all means do it! But, if you can't afford multiple visits, don't let that get you down. If your relationship doesn't span 2 years or more don't worry about it either. Those two factors are not something to lose sleep over. My fiance and I have only been together for 9 months, and filed 2 months after meeting. I visited twice for 10 days each. I remember being a newbie posting on the public forum and received nothing but negative comments and inaccurate information. The vast majority who responded to my post advised me to ditch the k-1 and get married because we hadn't known each other long enough and because of my short visits we would be denied. Here we are 6 months later and the visa was approved.
Please don't stress about the interview. I can't speak on the experiences of those in the past, but as for now, in 2013 US General Consulate in Casablanca is not out to get you. Come to the interview WELL PREPARED and honest and everything will be fine. Avoid asking for personal advice on the public forums. Find someone you can trust, and vibe with and talk to them one-on-one. Don't get me wrong, there's some great people in the MENA forum. But if you want to keep your sanity, don't post in the forum unless they are very general questions. Focus on researching/learning the process, preparing for the interview, and cultivating your relationship rather than obsessing about the Casablanca horror stories. Every case is different. Focus on YOUR case. I hope someone finds this helpful. Good luck to everyone still waiting!
