Montreal, Canada | Review on January 17, 2007: | Emancipation

Well.. I'm home, and we have passed that "last" test. Our apt. was at 2:30pm and we attempted to get into the Consulate around 10:30am, but were denied entry due to our interview being in the pm. They said "go to the mall - come back at 2pm". After 3-4 hrs at the mall (which is down under the Hyatt - on St. Catherine St. 2 blocks away), we were ready to get this thing UNDERWAY!! After we prayed, we went back to the consualate and were 2nd in line. We had emptied EVERYTHING out of our pockets in our car and only took paperwork (in an accordian file which was marked by tab for each thing on the checklist), and got through ahead of the couple before us (except Brent's key fob (remote access) - that is considered "electronic"). They gave us a claim ticket for it and sent us to the 19th floor. I paid the cashier and got a number to go to a wicket (there seemed to be confusion between the cashier and the paperwork taking lady -not sure which way that's supposed to be done). The lady at the wicket took my paperwork easily, and I had signed my 2 copies of DS-156 - she just used corrector tape and had me re-sign with the interview date - no biggie (this MAYBE took 10 min to fully complete). I waited 5 min and then got sent to a room where a younger, nicely dressed, calm man was waiting. He allowed Brent to stay in the room, and when i went to sit down said "no.. this won't take long, just stay standing". He asked me if I had relatives in the US, and if they lived in my province, what Brent did for a living, why we applied for K-1 so quickly after having met (2 months), seemed okay with my answers, and said "nothing here gives me a red flag - you will have your visa on Friday (I supplied the xpress envelope). VERY easy, VERY low stress, in and out in less than 45 min total (including security). Security seemed the most "jumpy" and the least "in the loop", just don't bring ANYTHING you don't need to the interview, that's my suggestion!! AND don't stress.. it's exactly like applying for a bank loan, read VJ - get your checklist TOTALLY completed, and VOILA!!
Oh and a note about the x-ray. The woman at the wicket saw mine and said " those x-rays are for your new US Dr. Give them to him so he has something to compare with if another x-ray is ever done". That makes sence to me!!
*sigh.. Montreal Consulate gets thumbs up from me!!
