Our interview was scheduled for May 19, but I emailed the embassy and requested an earlier date once I knew that they had received our file, explaining that I (the USC) am pregnant and that May 19 was really close to my due date so we'd appreciate an earlier date b/c I would like to attend the interview with my husband (the beneficiary). They told me they'd contact us once they received our file. Through tracking I knew that they received our file on April 4, but they didn't call until April 22, telling us to come in the following Sunday, April 28 10:00 am, for our interview.
I was under the impression that they had certain times for Non Immigrant Visa, American Citizen Services, and Immigrant Visa but I guess I was wrong. We got to the embassy at 9:30 am and it was SO crowded. They were calling numbers 135 and that's when I noticed that they were doing NIV's! Once they finished those, they started with the ACS numbers, which were only 6 or 7 people, THEN they started with the IVs, we were the last ones and we had numbers 10/11. They finally started calling IV numbers at around 10:30 am, we went through the second security check and up to the actual embassy at 11:00. Then we waited there for another hour while everyone else finished and they started taking care of the IVs.
First you get called to submit the medical results and take your originals, the person you deal with is not the consular officer but I guess he pre screens and makes sure all the documents are in order. Then you sit back down and wait again.
There were two consular officers as far as I could tell, we dealt with the female one. (I dealt with the male about 6 months ago when I renewed my son's passport, he's also very nice.) She was very nice and our interview lasted about ten minutes. She mostly asked about how we met and our engagement, which was weird to me b/c we've been married for 8 years! But my husband pointed out that all of our pictures and evidence was from our marriage until now so maybe that's why they asked about our relationship before then. It was a very easy interview overall but that's probably because I included so much evidence!
At the end they took my husband's passport and told us that they'd call us in a couple of weeks once the visa is ready in order to pick up everything. I asked her does she mean two weeks and she said it'll probably be earlier than that. I took that to mean no AP so hopefully we'll have the visa in hand soon!
I'm rating the whole experience a 4 only b/c there were a lot of way that the process could be more organized.
