My husband and I reached the Mumbai Consulate at 5:15 am. We were the first ones there. However, the security guard didn't allow us to wait on queue because it was too early. We were asked to wait across the consulate. As we were waiting, more and more people started to come. Around 6:45 am, the staff members from the consulate asked us to form two lines (Immigrant & Non-Immigrant). My husband, of course, was the first person on the Immigrant line. At 7:15 am, they started letting everyone in. He went through all the security checks and got the first token.

First round of the interview was at 7:30 am. The Indian lady asked him the following questions:

Q: Would you like a translator?
A: No thank you

Next, she requested the following documents: Indian Passport, Medical Report, Passport Police Clearance, 2012 Tax Returns and 2 Photographs.

Q: Who is Sangeetha?
A: She's my wife
Q: Who is (my father's name)?
A: My father-in-law
Q: Have you ever been to the US before?
A: No
Q: What countries have you previously visited?
A: Answered

After the interview, she showed my husband a notice regarding the USCIS Immigrant Fee he must pay before he leaves the country if he is approved. If it is approved, the IO will give the notice with my husband's name and alien number. Then she asked him to sit and wait for the second round of the interview.

Around 8:00 am, he was called for the second interview. The following is what the American IO asked him:

IO: Good morning (smiles)
Husband: Good morning sir, how are you?
IO: I'm doing good. Please sign the DS-230.
Husband: Signed it
IO: How did you meet your wife?
Husband: Answered
IO: Was it an arranged or love marriage?
Husband: Answered
IO: What's your wife's date of birth?
Husband: Answered
IO: Is your wife working?
Husband: Answered
IO: Does she have a profession?
Husband: Answered
IO: What were you doing in (country)
Husband: Answered
IO: Did you go for a honeymoon?
Husband: Answered
IO: Where?
Husband: Answered

IO asked my husband to show the wedding pictures. He showed it and the IO took a very good look at it and smiled. My husband pointed out people and told the IO who was who in the pictures. After that, the IO said "Your visa is approved". Then the IO gave him the notice regarding the Immigrant Fee and told him to pay the $165 before entering the US. Last but not the least, the IO said "Good luck on your future in America and wish you all the best". My husband said thank you and left the window.

Overall, he said the IO was very nice. It took my husband only an hour and 15 minutes to go in and come out. I guess that's the advantage of being first on the line.

With all that said, thank you to all the VJ members for helping me during this long journey.I wouldn't of been able to do any of this without you all and I truly mean that. Visa Journey is still a part of my life. I will still be around to help others. I wish all of you the very best on your visa journey and hope you all join your loved ones very soon =)
