Review Topic: Other Experience

This is a review of my walk-in biometrics experience at the Denver USCIS office in East Colfax, Aurora, Colorado.

My husband and I arrived at the Applications Support Center around 8:06. I saw that there were quite a lot of people in line for biometrics and seated at the waiting area, but I gave the guard my papers anyway. She said,"All these people have appointments this morning and you'll have to wait until they are done. Do you want to wait or come back? I said we'll wait. So she took my appointment letter and gestured toward some seats. My husband and I took our seats.

After three minutes, I decided we were better off finishing our other chore in Aurora and coming back. So I spoke with the guard again and explained. I asked for my letter back, and she said, oddly, that I could just leave it there. In my mind, I said "Hells no!" But of course, I said, "Nah, I think I should take it with me."

Husband and I returned at around 9:10. He peeked in to look at how much waiting I was going to do, and decided to go for a walk. I forgot to bring anything to read, so I had with me our car manual for my reading pleasure. This time, the guard took my application letter and said I should take a seat. She took it to another nearby room and went back to her desk. After a couple of minutes, a man emerged from that room and gave her a two pieces of paper. I assume one of these was my appointment letter. She called me over and asked me for my ID. I gave her my passport, which she looked over and attached to a clipboard with my appointment letter and another piece of paper. She asked me too fill out the one page form and bring it back to her.

It was a form that asked basic details--name, birthday, sex, address, country of birth, country of citizenship, alien number, race, application number. I checked my answers four times and gave the clipboard back to her. However, she only took the clipboard and asked me to stand in line in the biometrics section of the room. Fortunately, there was no line.

A lady checked my form, for completeness I suppose, and passed me on to another lady who took my fingerprints. Then they gave me back my appointment letter (which had been stamped), my passport and an additional yellow feedback postcard which I popped into a Dropbox near the exit. Done in 15 minutes. I didn't even have time to peruse the lovely car manual.
