Upon arrival at the embassy we received great hospitality from the security guards, who answered all of our questions politely and guided us properly.
The conditions of the waiting room were very clean and the staff were very friendly. The amount of people in the waiting room was pretty minimal and therefore not as chaotic as I had previously expected. We went to the counter to grab out ticket number and, again, we were received with politeness. We did wait several hours until our ticket was called but having a television helped ease the pain. They also had a play area for children which was definitely helpful for a few of the other petitioners who were present. We talked to several people who were also there for interviews and many of them commented on the fact that they were relieved to receive kindness.
Our actual interview went well. We were asked about living arrangements upon arrival in the U.S. and if my fiance (petitioner) was planning to work in the future. I was able to stand at the counter during the interview and I was also asked a few questions. The interviewer was suprised and pleased that I had traveled from America to help my fiance through this process and I belive it played a huge roll in our passing. He asked questions to my fiance in her native language and then asked me the same questions in English. I suspect that this was an attempt to confirm that we in fact new eachother well and that we had the same story. We did not plan for answering any particular questions; we just answered honestly. One specific question that was a key factor was when he asked "If you don't speak Cambodian how can you communicate with her?" to which I answered with "Well sometimes we cannot communicate and it can be difficult but I have a dictionary on my phone and sometimes we type instead of talk and then being able to read the words makes understanding much easier." I also showed him my phone and also had photos in my evidence package of me holing my dictionary up to the computer screen for her to see.
All-in-all our experience was quite well and all I can advise is to tell the truth. As long as you do not appear incredibly nervous and all of your stories match the evidence you gave, everything will be fine. It is also important to note that I brought an extreme amount of evidence as I was maticulous with gathering and saving everything during our relationship. It is BEST to be extremely planned and throrough. All of the people that failed that day (and we did see paople fail) was because they had litle or no evidence and the evidence they did have was mix-matched and chaotic.
