Tokyo, Japan | Review on March 24, 2013: | blurrypictures

This review is being written on behalf of my wife who completed her consulate interview in Tokyo on 3/11/13. My wife's appointment was set for 8:30am but she made sure to arrive an hour early after reading about other's experiences with very long lines. She was right to do so as she was second in line to go inside the embassy whereas there were close to a hundred other people waiting in line behind her. Once inside, her fingerprints were processed quickly and all her documents were processed and within 30 minutes she was called up to the interview counter. My wife does not speak English yet and we were not sure if her interviewer spoke Japanese, so in the days leading up to her interview we practiced and role played various questions and answers we anticipated. We were glad we did so because her interviewer spoke next to no Japanese! It all ended up being fine though and after about 10 minutes her interview was done and the interviewer told her congratulations. One important note for those interviewing at the US embassy in Tokyo: be sure to bring your own LetterPack 500 envelope for the embassy to mail your passport and documents back to you. In conclusion my wife got her passport with her immigration visa stamped inside and an envelope not to be opened until we arrive to our first port of entry in the US. I am set to fly over and pick her up and then we'll be back in the states by April 6th. We could not have completed this long process as smoothly as we did if it were not for the forums at VisaJourney. For this we are eternally grateful and excited to start our new life in the states!
